According to the legend of the Kathmandu Valley, when Manjushri Bodhisattva came to the valley and opened the waters of the ancient lake to make it suitable for human settlement, the serpent king Karkotak Naga and other serpent beings were believed to have moved from the valley. Taudaha is considered to be the sacred home where Karkotak Naga found refuge.
